The final stage of the 2019 Winter Universiade's torch relay took place in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk on Friday.
Seventy people, including the International University Sports Federation’s President Oleg Matytsin, participated in the event.
The relay finished on Tatyshev Island, in the Universiade park, where the city's cauldron was lit.
The torch relay for the winter Universiade 2019 started on Sep 20, 2018, the International day of student sports. For 164 days, the Universiade flame has visited 30 Russian cities.
Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov said that millions of Russians “saw the Universiade flame with their own eyes” and “gave the warmth of their hearts” to Krasnoyarsk.
The 2019 Winter Universiade is an international student and youth competition, which is scheduled to take place from 2–12 March 2019 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk. This is the first time the event will take place in Russia.
