Wimdledon women's singles champion Simon Halep was given a hero's welcome by thousands of people in her hometown of Constanta on Saturday.
Thousands of fans lined the streets of the city to cheer on the tennis champ and congratulate her on her victory as she drove by on a double-decker bus. Halep later spoke to the large crowd from a stage.
"The road up to here wasn't easy. There are many people to whom I would like to extend my gratitude, but I would naturally like to begin with my family, who always supported me, I would not have made it, had it not been for them. They are also here. Thank you," Halep said.
Halep overcame Williams 6-2 6-2 to win her first Wimbledon singles title.
