According to a new report, health department officials have announced a 20-year high in mumps cases for the US state of Texas. So far in 2017, officials said this week that there have been 221 cases of mumps reported, the most since 1994 when there was 234 cases. Chris Van Deusen, a spokesman for Texas' health services department, tells CNN, "We've seen a pretty big resurgence in mumps cases over the last six or eight months." Symptoms for Mumps usually appear about 16 to 18 days following exposure to the virus.
