According to a report by Reuters, on Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blamed Iran for attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf, claiming it was an effort by Tehran to drive the global price of oil up. Shortly before leaving for Europe, Pompeo told reporters, “These were efforts by the Iranians to raise the price of crude oil throughout the world." Pompeo reportedly went on to suggest that he had seen actual evidence of Iran's involvement cited earlier by White House National Security Advisor John Bolton.
