Thousands of people demonstrated outside the parliament in Lima on Monday, as Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra announced the dissolution of Congress and called for early parliamentary elections.
The demonstrators exhibited numerous Peruvian flags, and placards and banners denouncing corruption.
"We are all happy, this should have happened a long time ago. Fed up with corruption, fed up with corrupt politicians. Young people want different politics. We are already tired, these parasites should get out of here. That's why we're gathered here," said Arturo Zuniga, a protester.
The announcement comes after the Chamber rejected the matter of trust to reform the method of appointing the judges of the Constitutional Court (TC). This change sought to annul the influence of the opposition in the selection of the magistrates of the TC, since Fujimorism, an opponent of Vizcarra has an absolute majority in Congress.
