Clashes erupted between farmers and police forces in the Peruvian city of Chiclayo on Monday, as farmers were holding a nationwide 24-hour agricultural strike.
Police deployed teargas on protesters who attempted at blocking roads with stones in old North Pan American Highway. At least four protesters were reportedly injured.
The action involved thousands of farmers from 15 regions across the country, with the organisers threatening to extend the protest for longer if they will not get the authorities’ attention. The farmers are reportedly demanding tariff policy changes on food imports and a chance in water use regulations, among other demands.
