One person was reported killed and at least 11 were injured after a magnitude eight earthquake hit northern Peru on Sunday. The quake struck nearly 160 km away from Yurimaguas, a town with over 62,000 residents. Footage shows the clean-up operation and damaged buildings.

"Honestly, we are pretty hurt. We hope that the authorities will take action on the matter, [we are] asking if they can give us support in whatever way they see fit," said a Yurimaguas resident.

The earthquake was felt across the region: in Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador where seven people were reportedly injured. Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra appealed for calm saying that authorities are "evaluating the situation."
