There has been violence in Paris on the first anniversary of the "Yellow Vest" protest movement.

Police fired tear gas and water cannon at hundreds of demonstrators after they built barricades across the city and set cars and rubbish bins ablaze.

The movement began last November over rising fuel prices and the high cost of living, and quickly grew into a wider revolt against President Emmanuel Macron's reforms.

Al Jazeera's Neave Barker reports from Paris.
