Pakistan Marks Shiite Muslim Holy Day of Ashoura

Thousands of Shiite Muslims marched through the streets of Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad, Monday, September 9, to mark Ashoura, the festival of mourning Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. As part of the rituals marking the most important holiday for Shiite Muslims, many participants hit their chests, performed self-flagellation and repeated the phrase "Ya Hussein" to express grief. Shiites claim Hussein to be the rightful successor of Muhammad. (AP)
