Pakistan observed a 'Black Day' on Thursday to mark India's Independence Day celebrations amid high tensions over the status of Kashmir.

The protest in the capital Islamabad was attended by several thousand demonstrators, many of whom brought national flags and symbols of Pakistani-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

The rally comes at a time of growing tension between India and Pakistan, after the Indian government decided on August 5 to strip the region of its autonomous status under Article 370 of the constitution.

The move provoked strong reactions in Pakistan, leading Islamabad's authorities to announce they would cut bilateral trade with India and expel the Indian ambassador.
