Scientists have discovered something new in the mysterious Mariana Trench.
Geek.com reports an oil-eating bacteria has been discovered in the trench, the deepest part of the Earth’s oceans.
The bacteria that can help clean up man-made oil spills.
In a study published in Microbiome, researchers say they found the bacteria at 36,089 feet (11,000 meters).
“We found that hydrocarbons exist as deep as 6,000 meters below the surface of the ocean and probably even deeper. A significant proportion of them probably derived from ocean surface pollution." Dr. Nikolai Pedentchouk
