According to Huff Post, teachers in Oakland went on strike demanding more resources for students in their district and higher wages.
The Oakland Education Association organized the strike on behalf of 3,000 of Oakland's educators.
After the union failed to reach an agreement with Oakland Unified School District, teachers chose to picket their schools.
The teachers demands include smaller classroom sizes, and more counselors and nurses for students.
Although teachers also demanded a 12-percent increase in pay, sixth-grade humanities teacher Estefania Rodriguez said wage increases matter, but additional resources for students are more important.
