North Korea's state TV broadcast footage of what is says was a ceremony marking the Day of the Foundation of the Republic in Pyongyang on Monday. The images show people laying flowers and wreaths at statues of the country's late leaders, Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.
This year the holiday was marked in an apparent calm atmosphere after the city was hit by Typhoon Lingling on Saturday. The clean-up operation was reportedly over by Sunday morning.
The celebrations took place after North Korea's repeated missile tests in recent months in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.
