According to the United Nations, Nigeria is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to give birth. with an annual maternal mortality rate of approximately 58,000 women. CNN reports that a new service launched by Abiodun Adereni is using low-cost supplies to save lives. Adereni educates pregnant women in rural areas and provides them with clean birth kits. Adereni said; "We provide basic WHO (World Health Organization) clean birth kits to women. These include surgical blades, delivery mats, and other things needed for a safe home delivery to avoid infections that may lead to the death of pregnant women". The kits are free and Adereni has distributed more than 250 and hopes to increase the number of lives impacted with increased funding and awareness.
