Thousands of people gathered in Christchurch's Hagley park, just outside the Masjid Al Noor mosque for prayers and a moment of silence on Friday, marking one week since the Christchurch mosque attacks left 50 people dead.

People can be seen praying and listening to speakers in the park. One local, commenting on the actions of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in the wake of the attacks, said “I think it’s the first leader that I saw being a true leader."

Another said "get rid of the guns, let’s get rid of terror, and make the world a safe place for everyone."
