New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern spoke Thursday following a mass shooting at a mosque in Christchurch that left several people dead, calling it "one of the darkest days in New Zealand's history."

Police placed all of the city's schools on lockdown amid the incident, calling a "serious ongoing firearms incident."
