A new Pew survey confirms that America's political divide is reflected in attitudes on gun control. The survey found an overall drop in support for gun control. In 2000, two-thirds of those polled said they supported gun control measures as opposed to this year where only 51 percent favored gun control. There was strong agreement on some issues though, with 89 percent of people supporting preventing the mentally ill from buying guns and 84 percent of people supporting background checks for sales at gun shows.
