New details have emerged about how a United States political fundraiser helped orchestrate a campaign against Qatar in Washington, DC.
Elliot Broidy was one of US President Donald Trump's top fundraisers and stands accused of illegally running a multimillion-dollar advocacy campaign to turn the US against Qatar.
The campaign was allegedly funded by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A key date in the investigation, according to the New York Times, is a pivotal White House meeting with Trump, his chief of staff, and his national security adviser.
Broidy reportedly told an associate that he spent most of that meeting talking about the Middle East, including telling Trump that Qatar was part of an "axis of evil".
Rami Khouri, a senior public policy fellow at the American University of Beirut, talks to Al Jazeera about the campaign against Qatar.
