The 1,000-bed Navy hospital ship Mercy is receiving patients after docking at the Port of Los Angeles, where it is intended to ease pressure on hospitals by taking in people with non-COVID-19 ailments.

The Navy released video Tuesday showing military members preparing beds for patients. The ship is only taking non-coronavirus patients as the state braces for hospitals to be overwhelmed.

The Department of Defense and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are partnering with state officials in response to COVID-19.
