Trichomoniasis is the most common curable sexually transmitted disease, but researchers have found a new treatment for the condition. Historically, the recommended treatment has been a single dose of the antibiotics metronidazole or tinidazole. Dr. Patricia Kissinger a researcher at Tulane University told UPI, the single dose "recommendation was based on data about 30 years old and it was never really reconsidered." Researchers have since discovered that patients who receive multiple doses are about half as likely to still have the infection after taking all the medication compared with patients who only took a single dose.
