Two multi-car pileups on Hwy. 401 in Ontario caused major backups on North America's busiest highway on Feb. 13.

Approximately 20 vehicles were involved in a crash that was triggered near Milton, Ont. The crash caused several transport trucks to jack-knife, but no serious injuries were reported.

The second pileup occurred further east near Brighton, Ont., and sent one individual to hospital in serious condition.

The pileup blocked both westbound and eastbound lanes of the highway, prompting police to close the section of highway.

Hwy. 401 sees half a million vehicles travel along its more than 800 kilometres, which stretches from the Detroit-Windsor border in the southwest, to the Ontario-Quebec border in the east.
