According to a report by Business Insider, a search team led by billionaire Microsoft cofounder, Paul Allen, has discovered the wreckage of the USS Lexington, a United States aircraft carrier sunk in 1942. The Lexington was discovered by the research vessel Petrel after six months, just over 500 miles off Australia's east coast. Allen said in a release on his website, "To pay tribute to the USS Lexington and the brave men that served on her is an honor. As Americans, all of us owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who served and who continue to serve our country for their courage, persistence and sacrifice." The USS Lexington was sunk in the first carrier-on-carrier battle in history, the Battle of the Coral Sea from May 4th to May 8th of 1942.
