When it comes to microplastics, scientists say you can run, but you can't hide. According to HuffPost, between November 2017 and March 2018, researchers gathered water from weather station’s collectors at the top of the French Pyrenees and searched for microplastics — bits less than a fifth of an inch long. They discovered that 365 particles land on every square meter of ground every day. And they get there by winds blowing from Barcelona, which is 100 miles away. Scientists already knew that microplastics can hang in the air of big cities like Paris or Beijing, but no one had yet shown just how far the tiny particles can travel. The work was a short-term pilot study that demands further investigation from other researchers. However, the implications are shocking nevertheless.
