People in Mali are heading to the polls for a long-delayed parliamentary election. The polls opened today, just hours after the country recorded its first COVID-19 death. In addition to health concerns, the country also faces security risks. Leading opposition figure Soumaila Cisse was kidnapped on Wednesday while campaigning. The election has been postponed several times. A second round of voting is scheduled for mid-April.
