Eighty percent of buildings in the Tibetan town of Zhangmu near the China-Nepal border were either damaged or collapsed during the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake. The extensive damage forced thousands to flee their homes and turned the tourist magnet into a ghost town. The Chinese government moved those displaced to new residential communities.
