The Social Democratic Party's (SPD) former leader Andrea Nahles talks to the press on Monday, June 3 in Berlin, one day after announcing her resignation.

This decision comes after her party’s poor showing at the European Elections. The SPD came third behind the CDU and the Greens.

Nahles' successor will hold influence in Chancellor Angela Merkel's government, since Merkel's CDU/CSU alliance leads Germany in coalition with the Social Democrats.
