Ruptly is live from Quito on Sunday, October 13, as protesters take to the streets as part of the ongoing anti-government demonstrations.

The country finds itself plunged into a wave of protests amid social discontent after the government decreed a series of economic adjustment measures, including the elimination of fuel subsidies, in agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to obtain million-dollar loans.

Protests led by indigenous peoples have turned violent in the last days, leading Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno to announce that his government would move from the capital Quito to Guayaquil.

Moreno has blamed the mass demonstrations on former president Rafael Correa and his Venezuelan ally Nicolas Maduro.
