Members of the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission (JMC) are meeting in Geneva on Tuesday, February 18, in a new attempt to secure an effective ceasefire in Libya.

The first round of talks between the five senior officers appointed by the Government of National Accord (GNA) and five senior officers appointed by the Libyan National Army (LNA) took place on February 3-8 and were moderated by Ghassan Salamé, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

During the first talks, both sides could agree on the need to promote the return of Internally Displaced Persons to their homes, but a full understanding on better ways to guarantee normalcy in areas affected by clashes could not be reached.
