US President Donald Trump says he may leave some forces in Syria to stop oil fields falling into the hands of a resurgent Islamic State group.

The withdrawal of US troops from the north of the country paved the way for a Turkish military offensive against Kurdish-led forces.

More than 300,000 civilians have been displaced by the fighting that could resume when a ceasefire expires tonight.

Middle East correspondent Adam Harvey spoke to Kurdish refugees in the north-eastern city of Hassaka.
