Reuters reports that the head of Japan’s Olympic Committee has confirmed he was questioned by French authorities in December. Tsunekazu Takeda continues to deny there was anything improper about Tokyo’s bid for the 2020 Games. Takeda told reporters there is no reason to doubt Japan’s interactions and assured authorities he would cooperate fully. French financial prosecutors are investigating a multi-million dollar payment made by the bid committee to a Singaporean consultancy. Takeda was placed under formal investigation for suspected corruption on Dec. 10th. According to French law, a formal investigation means there is “serious or consistent evidence” implicating a suspect in a crime.
