Thousands of anti-nuclear power protesters marched through the streets of central Tokyo on Sunday, calling on the government to halt its policy of restarting Japanese nuclear reactors.

Protesters held signs and chanted slogans along the way, demanding the complete closure of the country's nuclear power plants for the safety of the population.

The march culminated with a rally at Yoyogi Park prior to the seventh anniversary on March 11 of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

The Japanese government is in the process of restarting a number of reactors, vowing that the reopened facilities will meet new standards put in place.
