Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who leads the far-right Lega party, rebuffed allegations that his party had sought tens of millions of euros in funding from Russian investors as part of a secret oil deal, during an interview in Rome on Wednesday.
"Did we receive a Euro? No," said the interior minister. "I never asked for anything ... When I go to Moscow, I talk about politics," added Salvini.
He concluded by saying that "as secretary of Lega I will do everything I will have to do."
On Wednesday, the website BuzzFeed published a transcript of an alleged meeting between Salvini's aide Gianluca Savoini and three unidentified Russians, that is said to have taken place in Moscow on October 18 last year, where the parties allegedly negotiated a deal to funnel tens of millions of euros to the Lega party.
