Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte held a 90-minute-long speech about an economic revival, mending and strengthening ties with EU and citizens' trust, at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, on Monday.

He called for "sobriety and rigor" so that the Italian "citizens can look at us with renewed trust."

"We are more and more convinced that protectionism is not an adequate response (to immigration) and that is why we believe that the defence of our national interests and our values has to be conducted in a common battle together with the other European countries," stressed Conte.

The Chamber of Deputies is scheduled to vote on Conte's new cabinet on Monday and the Senate is expected to vote on Tuesday.
