Sirens wailed in Ashkelon on Saturday as dozens of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip were intercepted in the skies above the coastal city.

Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system intercepted at least 150 rockets reportedly fired by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Two Israelis were wounded in the attack and one home in southern Israel suffered a direct hit.

Israel Defence Forces launched retaliatory air strikes on the northern part Gaza Strip on Saturday, killing one Palestinian and injuring four other. Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that they struck over 30 targets, belonging to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad across the Gaza Strip

The flare-up comes as senior officials from Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad were in Egypt for talks about a proposed Gaza-Israel truce.
