Storm Ali, the first storm of the season, hit Ireland, Scotland and northern England on Wednesday, with winds of up to 80mph (128km/h), footage from Duleek, County Meath shows.
An amber weather warning in the region was issued at 09:00 CET by the MET Office, signalling potential “injuries and danger to life”, damage to buildings and power cuts which may affect transport and services.
So far, power cuts were reported for around 55,000 homes and businesses in Ireland.
The alert will be in place until 18:00 CET, followed by a yellow warning of winds up to 60mph (97km/h) on Scotland, Yorkshire and northern Wales.
