Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke about US sanctions on Iran and labelled them as tough but ineffective during a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, during an event for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
"The pressure of sanctions is an unprecedented pressure in history. They themselves say that it is the toughest sanctions ever imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran," stated Rouhani, adding that everyone thought the pressure on Iran "would bring us to our knees by the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019, and not only the US, who is the great criminal and terrorist, thought in this way but also some other countries did as well."
The Iranian President labelled these tactics as ineffective, remarking that "they are looking for a solution and Americans are now frequently making us offers. Forget about their slogans that they use in their speeches, the content of their private messages that they send us is something else."
"They have figured out that this is the wrong way, which will lead to nowhere. In fact, they themselves know it and even the Europeans, who are the middlemen of these messages, and others know as well. Therefore, our nation has succeeded in this path. However, this victory was tough," Rouhani added.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been promoted annually by the United Nations since 1992, and is observed each year on 3 December.
