Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that negotiations with the United States would only take place if the US were to lift sanctions and apologise, while speaking at a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.
"Negotiation would be possible only through the lifting all the pressures and apologizing for all the illegal actions and also mutual respect," said Rouhani.
"Some think that the US is ready for negotiation and Iran rejects offers, but it is totally wrong. The US is not ready for negotiation and these US actions are intended to break the Iranian nation," added the president.
Rouhani also stated that "Iran's oil exports will not be dropped to zero and it is impossible. We will sell our oil in different ways."
The statement was presumably in response to US efforts to reduce Iran's oil exports, after it refused to extend waivers granted to China, Japan, South Korea, Turkey and India on their imports of Iranian oil, that were granted when sanctions were reimposed by the Trump administration in 2018, following its departure from the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA).
