Students at Lovely Professional University (LPU) showed off their newly produced solar-powered driverless bus in Jalandhar on Thursday.

Boasting a top speed of 30 km per hour, the vehicle was designed by some 300 students across a range of departments under the supervision of university tutors and experts.

"Our students have developed this car, but our students have fetched the data; like if some unpredictable or unidentified object came in front of the car, so it will break immediately without doing any of the action," said Mandeep Singh, Project Head of Autonomous Bus.

Nikil, a student who worked on the project, said: "we have made this bus at a student level and we are keeping improving it; and this is a fully functional bus."

While the current iteration of the bus is designed to run on smooth ground, an on-road version is soon to be launched for public use.
