Pro-democracy protesters clashed with police in Hong Kong on Saturday, as thousands of protesters took to the streets in several demonstrations across the city.

Protesters were joined by Italian opera singer Stefano Lodolo, who has reportedly been present at many rallies in Hong Kong, and can be seen singing their anthem 'Glory to Hong Kong'.

Riot police later deployed tear gas to disrupt the protests, and a demonstrator can be seen being arrested. Fire fighters and medics were also present at the scene.

According to reports, Saturday’s protests have been described by pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong and others as an ‘emergency call’ for increased autonomy for Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has been rocked by protests sparked by a now-withdrawn extradition bill since the end of March. The rallies later evolved into a wider movement against the government, marked by months of clashes between protesters and the authorities.
