Hong Kong police fired tear gas at protesters who had gathered in a public park on Sunday to call for electoral reforms and a boycott of the Chinese Communist Party.
Donning black clothing and face masks, demonstrators filled Chater Garden and had planned to march through the streets of the financial capital, before the plan was banned by police.
A heavy presence of riot police met the rally to prevent anyone from deviating from the approved location, but later ended the rally early using tear gas.
