Head of Sudan military council steps down

In Sudan, the defense minister has stepped down as chair of the country's transitional military council.

The announcement from Awad Ibn Auf came a day after he announced the ouster of President Omar al-Bashir. Auf said earlier the military council will rule during a transitional period of two years.

His successor Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan Abdel-Rahman has taken a constitutional oath to take over. The military has said it has no intention of holding on to power.
