Greece: Anti-NATO protesters march in Athens

Hundreds of anti-war activists marched through Athens on Wednesday, to protest against the NATO summit in Brussels and Greece's participation in the organisation's activities.

Protesters marched past the Greek parliament and the US embassy, carrying numerous banners and placards denouncing war and NATO.

Political Secretary of the political party Popular Unity and former Syriza MP Maria Bolari was one of the protesters to condemn Greece's role in the Alliance: "A country [Greece] that is being devastated by austerity is spending billions of euros on military equipment and is now involved in [military] antagonisms in the Balkans, in the middle-East and in the Aegean."

"We want social funds for the people and the working classes of Greece, solidarity with all the people in the Balkans", she said.
