The Australian performance artist Mike Parr emerged from the ground in Hobart on Sunday, after spending three days buried in a metal box.

The performance titled "Underneath the Bitumen the Artist" is a part of Tasmania's Dark Mofo festival and is dedicated to the victims of totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century.

Parr has spent 72 hours meditating in the small box with water, but no food.

The 73-year-old artist did not say a word after he was dug up from the ground.
