German authorities raided an apartment in the city of Duren in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia on Thursday, reportedly targeting suspected Islamist extremists based on intelligence reports suggesting "concrete indications" of a planned attack.

Footage shows several police personnel standing outside a four storey red brick apartment building with two police vans stationed outside.

Two men were reportedly taken in for questioning with the police expected to release further information regarding the search operation later today.

Two homes in the nearby city of Cologne were also raided as part of the police operation.
