German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she would not advise Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about territorial claims to Kosovo, during a joint press conference in Berlin on Tuesday.

"The expectations concerning Kosovo, I'm not the person that stipulates what should happen. We have been discussing about the desires and what need to be done, but the initiative comes from Serbia, the Serbian president is who acts," Merkel told the reporters.

Kosovo unilaterally declared independence in 2008. Serbia refuses to recognise Kosovo as a state and still maintains that it is an autonomous region of the Republic of Serbia. The Kosovo file is seen as a key issue for possible accession to the EU.
