German Chancellor Angela Merkel received three Christmas trees which will be set up at the Chancellory as part of the Christmas festivities in Berlin on Thursday.
Speaking at a gala to mark the event, Merkel urged the public to reflect on the difficult times this year, offering her wishes for a contemplative Christmas time.
"Sometimes you forget that when you see all that 'Klimbarabim' [German onomatopoeia] around. Actually the Christmas time is a time of Lent, a time to reflect, in which we think about the difficult things we had to experience this year. Joy and contemplation as well as remembrance should come together and bring us a good Advent time," said Merkel.
