Germany urged Russia’s Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz to settle their dispute on Monday during a press conference in Berlin.

Government spokesman Steffen Seibert (German) said: "The fact that Gazprom wants to cancel the contract prematurely has created irritations not only here in Germany, also in other member states and in the European Comission. It is in the interest of the European Union that Russia and Ukraine, also in the interest of both countries, to behave like trustworthy partners of the European gas supply.”

Russia announced on Monday that Gazprom will cancel its gas supply contract with Ukraine's Naftogaz.
