Activists wearing masks depicting European leaders held a rally in front of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on Saturday, to decry arms exports to Saudi Arabia.
The campaign dubbed as: 'Action outcry - stop the arms trade' aims at drawing attention to the consequences of selling arms to war-zones and more specifically Yemen.
"German, French, British, Spanish, Italian and other European weapons are being delivered into the Yemen war," explained Christine Hoffmann, the campaign’s spokesperson.
"That is a scandal. In Europe, we have rules that say European countries do not deliver weapons into war-zones, but they do, they keep on doing that," she added.
Activists wearing masks depicting the French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, staged a performance next to the iconic ‘Iron Throne’ from the ‘Game of Thrones’ TV series.
"We brought the throne from the 'Game of Thrones' here, because, it is not a game, wars are reality, and our governments are supporting that," Hoffman concluded.
According to the activists, Germany, France, the UK, Italy and Spain have been exporting arms that have been used by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
