One of the last trials against a former concentration camp guard kicked off in Hamburg on Thursday, with 93-year old Bruno D. facing 5,230 counts of accessory to murder.

The defendant was escorted into the courtroom in a wheelchair, covering his face with a folder, while being accompanied by his relatives.

The accusations against Bruno D. stem from his service, 70 years ago, as a guard at the Stutthoff concentration camp near Gdansk, when he was 17 or 18 years old.
