Protesters took to the streets of Nantes on Tuesday as part of a nationwide strike and demonstrations organised over the ongoing pension reform battle in France.
Protesters can be seen marching through the streets amid a heavy police presence. Tear gas was deployed against protesters, who hurled the cannisters back in turn.
On 11 December French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced a two-year-extension of the working period necessary to be assigned a full pension, triggering the anger of workers and trade unions. The demonstrations have turned into a movement addressing wider issues such as funding for the public sector. Health workers are expected to mobilise on 20 December.
